The Use of barcodes in FormReturn
Barcodes are both created and recognised in FormReturn and are used for these common purposes:
- As a form identifier: A Form ID Barcode is used for reconciling captured data with it's published form template along with the source data records used when the form template was published.
- As a segment area identifier: Segment barcodes are used to let FormReturn know where a segment appears in the form and let it calculate where the mark areas are based on the position of these segment barcodes.
- As a barcode of your own: As either a static or dynamic barcode of your own choosing. You can put either a number that appears throughout all forms (static) or a number that is taken from a database query (dynamic).
- New Barcode Area Feature: Using FormReturn you can create a barcode area for affixing barcode labels of your own choosing.
Create barcodes of your own choosing.
FormReturn can create many different 1D and 2D barcodes such as: Code128, EAN13, EAN128, Codabar.
As well as static barcodes, you can also dynamically create barcodes with values taken from the database using template variable replacement. If you place <<student_id>> as a barcode value, the system will look for student_id in your source data records and create a barcode with that value when publishing forms.
To place barcodes in forms, simply follow these steps in the editor:
| Step 1 - Select the barcode tool. | ![]() |
| Step 2 - Click the editor page with your mouse (to create a new barcode) then locate the barcode panel on the left side of the page. |
